To My Fellow Educators – It’s About the Experience

eLearning Comparison Chart

To My Fellow Educators,

Are you ‘woke’? The next revolution in education is coming and it’s not a set of new content standards. You will want to hear this one–it’s eLearning. eLearning is expected to become a $325 billion industry by year 2025 and will revolutionize educational institutions. Many universities and colleges are taking the lead on bringing their traditional courses online. This means more than distance learning. Universities and colleges are investing massive amounts of resources and energy into creating online pathways for degreed programs including undergraduate studies. According to research polls, 53% of U.S. students with at least a bachelor’s degree acquired debt and many students are demanding cost-effective alternatives.

What does this mean for you as a credentialed teacher? Rest easy you’ll probably still have your job due to the national shortage of teachers and because you’re awesome. But your district will have you learning a few new skills and online tools. The biggest change you will have to grapple with is with your lesson planning. Us teachers are so used to planning for time to squeeze out every last drop of valuable instructional minutes. As schools inch towards learning on an online platform, it’s no longer about the time, it’s experience. Students no longer want to read and write, they want to watch youtube videos, blog, and podcast. I’ve weighed in on the differences between traditional and online instructional delivery methods for you in the chart above. Have a look, have a think, have a Shirley Temple and let me know what you think.

Yours Truly, Sally
